This National Loving Day, I’m honored to partner with the Institute for Contemporary Art, San Jose for the release of my Digital Love Letters project, and a corresponding short film, with the same title. During 2012 to 2014, Steve and I aka SteVenus experienced living in a long-distance relationship. I was earning my master’s degree in Oakland, California.
Loving Day commemorates a love story that changed history and the existence of Richard and Mildred Loving, who won a landmark case in Loving vs. Virginia—the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in 1967, that invalidated state laws prohibiting interracial marriage. And even though there has recently been a law past in Tennessee trying to roll back on marriage equality, we know real love is limitless and can’t by color, nor separated by space, or time.
Watch the replay below of the official release of this project, which was aired on Sunday, June 11th at 11 am. Click here to view the short film directed by Tachiya Bryant aired on Loving Day 2023 at 5 pm PDT.
